Suchitra Sen, was the first Indian actress to win an International Award. She won Silver Prize at Moscow Film festival in 1963 for best actress for her role in Bengali Film Saptapadi. She was known as Greta Garb of Bengali Films.


In Andhi, her role of Arti Devi, a leading politician (opposite Sanjeev Kumar as JK, a hotel manager) was beleived to based on of PM Indira Gandhi & Bihar politician Tarkeshwari Sinha. Vyajanthimala had refused this role due to character's semblence  to  Indira Gandhi. 

 After 20 weeks of release,the movie was stopped due to drinking &                                                  smoking shots by Suchitra Sen, which could tarnish Indira Gandhi's                                                          Character.
                                                      Changes were made and the movie was re-released. 
                                                      During 1975 emergency, the movie was banned. 
                                                      The movie was opened after fall of Indira Gandhi in 1977 elections.
